Kathryn Richardson. The author is currently teaching in the Associate Diploma in Welfare Work at Sydney Technical College and undertaking part-time teacher training simultaneously. She graduated in Social Studies from Sydney University in 1974 and worked for three years as a medical social worker in a variety of hospital settings in Sydney and worked for two years in family welfare in Adelaide, which led to the interest in fostercare and adoption. She subsequently spent a year in Sweden studying a post-graduate Diploma in Social Sciences. This article is a summary of an unpublished research paper on Fostercare which was completed in August 1980 as part of that programme together with a supplement on Australia fostercare in 1982.
